Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Sequoia RV Ranch, Three Rivers, California

We have really enjoyed this little campground just a few miles from the entrance gate to Sequoia National Park.  It has been a quiet, relaxing place to call home for a few days. We decided to stay here four nights in order to see the community of Three Rivers and explore Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.  We have seen wild turkey and her poult, deer, and all sorts of gorgeous birds.  Sitting outside Wander is a delight as you get the breezes off the mountains around us and the sounds of the songbirds making incredible music.

View from our table

We have met some of our "neighbors" camping next to us from California, New Mexico and Texas.  Nearby is the Kaweah River Totem Market where we enjoyed a really good breakfast bowl that was topped with yummy, fresh avocados.  We became "friends" with Stephanie, a server, who treated Josie to some bacon.

The Horse Creek Lake is nearby and beautiful.  It is managed by the Corp of Engineers and very well maintained.  We saw lovely birds and ducks there.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are next door neighbors.  The immense size of these parks is a bit overwhelming. The entrance to Sequoia is just about six miles from our campground.  When you enter the park you are at about 900 ft above sea level.  An hour or so later (if you don't stop at points of interest) you are about 1/2 way through the park and over 8,000 ft.  The temperature on one morning was 81 at the entrance and 58 when we reached General Sherman's Tree a couple of hours later.

It takes another hour of non-stop driving to reach the entrance to Kings Canyon National Park.  Kings Canyon is gorgeous also but we only drove about 45 minutes into it.  We had a three hour trip back to our RV Park and were just tired of driving.  These hairpin turns are no joke!
