January at Huntington Beach State Park, South Carolina
We started out 2021 by camping at Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina for the month of January. Our RPod travel trailer was our comfortable home for the month as we enjoyed the sea, sand and wildlife of this beautiful area. Huntington Beach is well known for bird watching and we saw numerous types of bird life while there. Even though it was winter we had several sunny days when the temperatures were quite pleasant and we sat on the beach and soaked up the sun. Josie, our small 6 pound dog, had a great time running around on the beach and digging in the sand. She loved the beach so much that every day she would bring a small shell or rock back from the beach in her mouth to play with back at the campsite. While at Huntington Beach Bec was able to do some additional research on her great Aunt Maggie who lived on nearby Pawley’s Island many years ago. One of the many interesting things she discovered was that her Aunt Maggie had attended some social events with Archie and Anna Huntington while they were building Atalaya, the Huntington’s famous ocean front Moorish-style castle home, and beautiful Brookgreen Gardens.
